How quickly is the residency card issued after the decision?

I remember when we received the decision to issue the temporary card. I had to book time off work to go with my wife and then she had to have fingerprint/photographs done after which we were told we had to wait 3 week so the card can be printed. Will have to experience similar delays before we get the full card?

Also, do they need to send away the applicants passports so it can be stamped or some kind of visa added so that they can travel to and from Ireland without further permissions?

This is weird. When I got mine (of course I was here as a student before so they had my fingerprints already) it was issued on the same day. And yeah, my passport was stamped.

The decision is made one day before the deadline. Do not expect them to be efficient and make the decision weeks before.

I assume you are talking about the GNIB card. If you live in Dublin and go to the GNIB office, you normally get it the same day, if you live elsewhere, you have to wait a few days because I think they print them in Dublin. In my case I had to wait almost 2 weeks (in Cork).

Regarding stamps or visa, I doubt she will get any type of stamp or visa until she picks up the GNIB card, you could risk it and try travelling using the letter granting you the temporary permision.
