Post by Developer » Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:43 am

Hi,

I am HSMP holder and started contracting since Jan. I am moving to offshore account (isle of man) would it affect my chances of getting ILR.

Please help.

Thanks,

So what does your bank account have to do with economic activity

As far as I know you are not allowed to operate an offshore bank account if you are a tax resident of the UK.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

If the offshore account is legal under UK tax laws then there should be no problem.

i think he meant changing his pay structure so that he is paid via an off shore limited company based in the Isle of Man. I wonder who is right???

If he was going to work and live in the Isle of Man then his account wouldn't be "offshore", would it?

The Isle of Man is a tax haven. The jargon for a UK resident having bank account/limited company there would be to say it is 'offshore'.

We haven't actually established whether or not he is physically moving there.

Surprised that Developer has not bothered to respond ! All that I wanted to say was , many a times, when an IT consultant uses the term "account", it means a client rather than a "bank account".
