category A or B ? i'm confused :(

Post by q4question » Wed Jun 10, 2015 6:20 pm

HI all,
i work on PAYE on zero hours contract. my hourly rate is £7
i get salary slip every 4 weeks.
i joined this company 6 months ago. (this is my 6th month in this company)

1st (4 weekly) salary = 1211
2nd (4 weekly) salary =1848
3rd (4 weekly) salary = 1981
4th (4 weekly) salary = 1596
5th (4 weekly) salary = 1274
6th (4 weekly) salary = 1456
(till 6th payslip, 5.5 months are finished)(total gross for these 6 paylips is 9366)
7th salary will be after 4 weeks
(till 7th payslip, 6.5 months will be finished)

please tell me, which category is for me ? and why ? and how will i calculate my salary for exact 6months ?
Please reply me if you are gone through from this type of situation.
(for a spouce visa , i'm a british citizen)

You can use Cat A and as you are in non salaried employment
you work out your annual income with the following calculation:
Non-salaried income = (gross earnings from employment held throughout the 6 month period, divided by 6) x 12

I'm really thankful for your reply.
Can I ask you the remaining questions ?

[1] As i get 4 weekly salary,
6 pay slips cover 24 weeks (or 5.5 months).
7 pay slips cover 28 weeks (or 6.5 months).
So, how can i calculate 6months' salaries ? ( i get different salaries on every 4 weeks)

[2] my employer deducts tax and ni and i'm not on self employment. But as i work on 0 hrs contract, doest that mean, I am non salaried employee? (And still, I can apply under cat A with only 6 months' payslips :?: )

Waiting for your reply. (Thanx in advance)

Cat A or B depends on your length of employment not depends on whether u r salaried or non salaried.

If u r with current employer for more than 6 months than u apply under Cat A. Your salary is not fixed so u r non salried.

if u r with current employer for less than 6 months than choose Cat B and non salaried.

Thank you very much Zee Ali for your simple explanation. you solved my query for Choosing Category. Thanx.

The last question is,

As i get 4 weekly salary,
6 pay slips cover 24 weeks (or 5.5 months).
7 pay slips cover 28 weeks (or 6.5 months).
So, how can i calculate 6 months' salary ?

Which option should i follow from these 2 ?
(1) total of 6 payslips (=24 weeks = 5.5 months) / 6 = average salary * 12 = Gross Annual Salary
(2) total of 7 payslips (=28 weeks = 6.5 months) / 6 = average salary * 12 = Gross Annual Salary
