Is the UK residence visa accepted in switzerland?

Post by raina » Mon Jul 03, 2006 3:31 pm

Does anyone know if it is possible for an Indian national to visit Switzerland on the basis of a Uk residence visa which is granted to a work permit holder
And how long does the UK visa have to be valid?

I visited the Swiss Embassy site but could not make out as they have listed so many different options!

Hi

Yes, if you hold a valid uk residence visa you DO NOT require a visa to enter Switzerland. You need to have a UK residence visa that is valid for longer than 6 months. All information can be found at the Swiss embassies website here:

In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Sorry to bump up this old thread but could someone just confirm that if my husband, who is a pak national and residing in the UK on a two year spouse settlement visa, visits geneva then he doesn't have to apply for any additional visas?

Will this situation change when Switzerland joins Schengen next year?

Do not bank on news item dated 2005. Govt changed, policy turns.

That article doesn't even mention Schengen.

Switzerland held a referendum in 2005 on joining Schengen. It passed. For the policy to change, another referendum would have to be held.
