For reasons that are now lost in the mists of time, Citizens of the U.K. & Colonies (CUKC) in Penang and Malacca retained their status at independence in 1957.saeed1707 wrote:Can anyone shed any light on this one....
It has been suggested to me that...because my wife(Singapore national) was born in Malacca, Malaysia in July 1963 and her father was a resident of Malacca (and born in Malacca) whilst it was still a UK colony, that she may be eligible for a UK passport. Sound feasilble ?
To complicate matters my wife has been in UK now for almost 2 years on Spouse visa. She left Malacca when she was 4 to live in Singapore. Her Birth Cert and her fathers clearly state Malacca as birthplace.
Not very much, compared to what she already has on her Singapore citizenship.saeed1707 wrote:Yes her parents were married at time of her birth.
What, if any, are the rights and/or advantages of BOC status ?
Yes but she will find it much harder to travel compared to her Singapore passport.Does this status entitle her to a BOC passport ?
No. Acquisition of Singapore citizenship post independence did not cause loss of BOC. However if the Singaporeans had known they were British as well as Malaysian they would probably have insisted on that citizenship being renounced. They might still want to revoke Singapore citizenship if they found out.Does the fact that she took Singaporean citizenship & passport not void her BOC status under the statutes ? (Her father also took Singaporean citizenship some years ago).
