Being a Doctor's NO Priority is given --- Urgent help

Post by gunjans » Wed Dec 01, 2004 5:23 am

Hello All Forum Members,

I think Doctor's are given priority for HSMP assessment, but in my case it doesn't seems to be.

I am a Doctor (Physiotherapist) from India. My education was 4.5 yrs of medical school plus internship and residency.

My appl was recieved by HO on 23rd Jun and till now it has not been alloted to a case worker. But, on cover letter i didn't mention that i am a doctor. I wrote them twice that i am a Physiotherapist and getting lot of offers but they need face to face so nothing concrete is coming up, then also they did not take any consideration.

Can somebd help me about what to do nxt, should i call them (CAN U PLZ PROVIDE ME THE CONTACT NO FOR CONCERNED DEPARTMENT OF HO) or should i mail them.

Plz help me in this regard as it is enough of waiting now.

Warm regards,
Gunjan

Dear gunjans
Doctors are indeed given preference in HSMP i don't know why they haven't given preference to your application. I am not a doctor so my knowledge may not be complete in this regard.

First of all have you claimed 50 points for "HSMP priority applications" when you submitted the application?

Secondly it is stated in the HSMP application that:
In order to score points in this area you must hold full GMC registration and also one of the other three credentials listed below. This scoring area is for General Practitioners (GPs) only and is not open to Veterinary Surgeons or Dentists. You must also intend to work as a GP in the UK.
Do you fall in this category?

Thirdly it is stated in HSMP application that:
You should be Legally entitled to work in medical general practice in the UK
For this you have to provide some evidence which can be:
❏ Full GMC Registration, and
❏ A vocational training certificate issued by the UK or another EEA
member state; or
❏ A certificate of acquired right issued by the UK or another EEA
member state; or
❏ A certificate of equivalent experience issued by the Joint Committee
on Postgraduate Training for General Practice.

I think you may have missed something in the application or may not be falling the category to whom they give preference in HSMP.

However this is my idea and some doctor fellow can comment better on it

Dear Zahid,

Thankz a lot for such an expanded answer.

Actually i don't earn 50 point as i am not General Practitioner (GP).
I am not registered with GMC rather my registration is with Health Professions Council (HPC), UK, which is associated with Physiotherapist and I am Legally entitled to work in UK.

Thankz for ur valuable advise and would like to have more.

I request fellow Doctors to please advise on same.

rgds,
Gunjan.

zahidhsmp is right there. i think the priority is only given to GP's who actually claim the 50 points. but in any case there seems to be some other form of prioritising cases, so dont be surprised if you get a response from them at any time really, even if they have not reached your date

I know of 2 physios who were turned down for HSMP trying to claim the specialist points. Maybe they don't like physios?

Did you claim specialist points?

The priority is given to medical doctors. Your situation is not different to someone with PH.D in Musicology.

Where I come from, anyone who needs (as a requirement) at least 4 years of medical school, internship, and residency to do their job is automatically given the respect and title of 'medical doctor'.

However, the term 'general practitioner' only applies to medical doctors who did not go on to acquire specialty certification. And perhaps if only the GP classification is given top priority (Not medical doctors certified in a particular specialty), then this is why the application processing has not yet occurred.

On a more positive note, your specialist skills in medicine may be in more demand in the UK than those of a generalized doctor. So, once you do get the approval, you may have more opportunities than those who got in on the 'fast track'. You will of course want to do research to confirm this based on your particular medical specialty. 8)

Hi Gunjan,

You have mentioned that you are getting a lot of offers. It might be a good idea to mail them those correspondance documents and request for a priority treatment.

All the best.

Gunjan,

If you are reaching these companies through agencies, you can always request the agent to mail you detailing the rejection by their client that they defered/canceled the interview because of your current work VISA status. You can then mail this correspondence to the HO.

Cheers.
