WP in-country application

Hi All

If someone is here on a student dependant visa, can they apply for a Work Permit within the UK or do they have to leave the country and lodge an application from their country of origin? The person in question is dependent on her husband (student visa) and her leave expires in Feb 08. She wishes to make an in-country WP application but someone told her that she needs to leave the UK and make the application from abroad. Is this advice correct?

Thats right she would need to leave the country
