Does time spent as a visitor count towards ilr (LR)

Post by libby » Fri Jul 10, 2015 9:46 am

Sorry if this has been asked a countless number of times. Got my appointment on Monday, just can't stop thinking about it lol nerves are really kicking in. I came in as a visitor in august 2005 and then switched after a few months (while still here) to a dependant. Just wanted to know if those months I spent as a visitor count towards the 10 years?

Thank you

Wasn't the no-switching rule implemented in 2003?

Time under a visitor visa *can* count, although there is confusion about your case because changing from a visitor visa to any other visa had not been allowed for several years at that point...

Well I was granted leave to remain as a dependant so surely it was allowed then as I never had any problems

Could you post your immigration history? In-country switching from visitor has not been possible since 2003 except under extreme circumstances but mistakes have been made by HO so I wouldn't sweat about it.

Came in as a visitor in 2005 till december aged 15 then in Jan 2006 was granted "leave to remain", that's what it says in passport under type of visa. Then switched again in may to child dependant and have remained so till this date.

Must admit that all sounds very strange. You're still dependent on your Mother at 25? Not sure about this one, I'll leave it for others.....

@wanderer You make it sound as though im the first...I've seen several posts on here by dependants who are over 18. I've been her dependant since I was 15 and have had to prove (including attending an interview) every time we renewed our visa that I was not living an "independent" live ie married or living away from home..... anyway I'll still go ahead with my appointment on Monday.
