Employer's letter

Hi guys, I've got a question with the regards to the employer's letter and I hope you would be able to help.

Could you please explain what's meant by " the period over which they have been or were paid the level of salary relied upon in the application"? how is this different from stating you annual gross salary? and if you can provide an example?

This is about confirming the amount you earn and for how long.
