Bank Statement authenticity

Hi,

I have obtained paper statements from HSBC where I have my salary account. But HSBC refused to authorize those with stamp and signature saying that they do it only for net-downloads or e-statements. Since the paper statements issued by the bank are already on bank letter-head, they r considered original and do not need stamping.

Do I really need stamped and signed bank-statements for HSMP application?

Also is it okay to highlight the 'salary' transactions on bank statements using pencil or highlighter for ease of case-worker?
