If you have the RC you should have no trouble at all.

Could someone comment on the time it takes for an employer to get a response from the Home Office Employer Checking Service? Thanks
Hi mileman, thanks very much for your previous replies.
I am a non EEA national married to EEA and came here in UK on Family permit which got expired 4th of august, and I have applied for Residence card last month.
now I have a situation, I need to go to India (my home country) very urgent as my granny is not well. I have submitted my passport to UKBA for Residence card.
1. so can I ask my passport back and if so can I travel with expired visa to India.
2. My application will be cancelled if i ask my passport back.
3. can I apply for Family permit in India (again) to come back to UK.
4. Do I need to reapply for Residence card after I come back from India or it gets continue from where I have withdrawn my passport.

Thanks very much for your reply.
Macwil, here is what I know:

Your application will not be cancelled if you ask for your passport back, make sure when you ask for your documents back, you DONT tick the box that says withdraw application.
When you come back from India, you will need to present on top of your passport, your COA and your marriage certificate to the EEA national.
By doing this your process still goes on, and you won´t need to re-apply for anything, as long as you are within your COA´s validity, which is six months.

How long has the HO had your documents and how long will you be away from the UK?
hi mileman , thank you very much for your reply.
I had applied on 2nd July and BRP done on 10th July. Still didnt get COA letter.
I planned going on 30th OCT and return 19Nov. Actually I am going to get married.. (church Marriage)
I had called up UKBA , they said same thing which you replied but they asked me to reapply for Family Permit in India to come back. I didnt ask them whether I can enter with COA and marriage certificate. reapplying F.Permit is not problem.
my biggest tension is to enter UK on 19th Nov and join work.

Thanks again.

I think if you keep clicking during the appointment booking and select your application type, you would see the charge is only 65 in the end. That is what we did early last month at least.......
Thanks lyztge! If this time they mess up again, I'll use this service. Plus, how close you would be able to make earliest appointment when you went online to book last ?

Hi bilirserdar, just a question what do you mean by "plus we will get plastic RC"?

Hi nina Roche,
Plastic RC means it will be a card like biometrics residence card it is not going to be on the passports anymore for the applications made on or after 6th April 2015 when they introduced biometrics for non EU nationals

Hey Lo628,
I applied in April as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll start getting them in a few weeks, but I'm not expecting much.
My timeline is as follows:
Application sent 19.04
COA dated 28.04.
Requested passports back 03.08.
Still waiting on passports and RC.

I'm really nervous about my passport. I need to go back to Australia for a cousins wedding in September and I know I should have requested them earlier but I just wanted the home office to have them for as long as possible. I thought asking for them more than a month in advance would be enough, but now I'm not so sure :(
How long has it been taking everyone else to get their passports back?
Hey fernandopeleias! We're on the same boat! We sent our application EEA(QP) & (FM) on 24th of Feb, COA dated 2nd of March. My wife and I are thinking of calling them on friday but seems like it's not a good idea. We're also moving address early next month hopefully we don't need to wait that long or else we would need to update address for the 2nd time :? . I think we should make our letters ready to our MP's because 6 months is nearly over and get in touch with SOLVIT. Best of LUCK and keep in touch..

Hi Zedy, any news about your case? Did you manage to call them?
