Registration requirements differ from country to country. First of all, as already mentioned, you do not need to get any sort of residence card. You will, however, have to observe the same registration rules that apply to locals. In Germany, for example, you will have to register with the municipal inhabitants register (Einwohnermeldeamt) within one week of moving there, as well as unregister in the event you move outside the country.
