Schengen Visa

Post by sudhy6 » Wed Nov 14, 2007 9:49 pm

Can somebody please tell since when will Mauritians no longer need a visa prior to travelling European Union. I have read on the EU's website that this has already been passed but nobody is clear when that becomes effective.
Thanks

Sudhy, you should post in the EU immigration forum. Mauritians have not needed visas for the UK for a few years.

The answer to your question is that it will happen when the officials of the 5/6 new visa-exempt countries get their act in gear and sign the bilateral agreements required by the EU.

sudhy6, I have heard no such news and currently Mauritians are required to possess visa to gain entry to the Schengen countries. If anything changes it will be widely published in the websites of all the countries that take part in the Schengen acquis.

Docterror, Mauritius has been added to the list of schengen visa-exempt countries with a proviso of the required agreements being signed.

Thaks PaulP. It would be nice to know when we could actually go to EU countries on a whim rather than plan everything a fair few months in advance!

Article 2
Member States shall apply the visa requirement for Bolivian nationals with effect from
1 April 2007.
Member States shall apply the exemption from the visa requirement for nationals of Antigua and
Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Mauritius, Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Seychelles from the date
of entry into force of an agreement on visa exemptions to be concluded by the European
Community with the third country in question.

So if those individual governments drag their feet, it might be a while yet. Dont see any reason why it wouldn't be concluded in a reasonable amount of time
