Naturalisation for wife

Post by hariff_m » Sun Oct 11, 2015 12:52 pm

Dear members,

I have a very unique query.

My wife entered the UK on the 20th April 2010.
We got our ILR on the 12th of September 2011. My wife got hers' with me cos I was under HSMP.

Every year since 2010, my wife has been away on holidays for about 50 - 70 days.

In 2014, my wife became pregnant, but the pregnancy was so difficult that she was hospitalised twice and finally her parents had to come over to Edinburgh and take her to US (where they live). So, my wife left on the 5th of Feb 2014 when she was 5 months pregnant. (almost 240 days)
Our baby was born in June and my wife returned on the 14th of October.

I, in the meantime applied for citizen and got it May of 2014.

Now my questions are -

1. Since my wife has been here for more than 5 years, her total number of days away from the UK is less than 450 days - can she apply by herself without her applying as my spouse, which takes the 3 years criteria and 270 days away from the country.

2. If my wife is applying as a stand alone applicant - What does she fill in under - Details Of Employment -
Cos my wife is a housewife and does not work.

All other criterion is ok.

Please someone advice and I hope my questions have made sense.

1. Yes she can apply on her own based on 5 years residence if she meets all the requirements, including no more than 90 days absence in last 12 months.

2. Employment is NOT a criteria for citizenship. If she is a housewife, she can just write 'unemployed/housewife'.

Thank you moderator CR001 for your response for both questions,

I was just reading my 1st post again and a noticed a few grammatical errors in the sentences.

My point was that she was away for 240 days last year(2014) between February the 5th and
October the 15th. thats 240 days in 1 year alone. But adding up for 5 years brings it less that 450 days.
And for the time between 14th October 2014 and 13th October 2015 the number of days away was less than 90.
But i guess u understood that anyway.

1 other quick question -
For English Language proficiency, I got her certificate (Bachelors in Visual Communication) verified by NARIC - which stated that the qualification meets the requirement of CEFR Level C1.
Thats good enough, right?
