Tier 2 General - IELTS Requirement

Hi

One of my friends has been offered a job by UK based company. My friend is currently in India and the company is in the process of issuing him Tier 2 General visa. Company has asked him to do IELTS life skills B1 but I doubt this information. I think since his application is for Tier 2 general he should take IELTS General and not B1 as B1 is for settlement & ILR. Can seniors & moderators please advise which IELTS he should take ie whether life skills B1 or IELTS General ?

B1 is the level of language competency required. This level equals certain score band of approvéd English tests. According to existing rules, Tier 2 general could be satisfied by IELTS general/ academic of 4.0 or 5.0 (I dont remember exactly, u can check guideline)
