Request for Return of passport and brp from home office

Hello there,

I put in an application "Request for a change of conditions of leave granted on the basis of family or private life". I thought it took a month or less to get a response from home office but its been well over that and i urgently need my passport and my Brp card.
is it possible to request for them to be returned to me without stopping my application
How do i request for it. Is it by phone or by post
and how long would it take to get them.
