COS work dates less than 3 years?

Hi guys
I have finally received the scanned printed COS and I have some concerns with the dates stated;
Date assigned: 02 October 2015
work dates;
start date: 01 September 2015
End date: 01 June 2017

Can the start date be before the assigned date? also most worrying is the duration?
01 Sep 15 - 01 Jun 17 is less than 3 years!!? would this affect my visa application?

Has anyone experienced this? any advice?

can I sponsor change dates using a sponsor notes? is this acceptable?

Yes, a sponsor note should be fine.
