1st British passport from overseas-supporting documents

Post by usman81 » Tue Nov 10, 2015 10:27 pm

Hi- My wife had to travel for urgent reasons, she went to Pakistan next day of citizenship ceremony. She wants to apply for her 1st British passport. Is the address required on " Identity Documents" a UK address OR overseas (Pakistan)?

Here is what they ask for. Will appreciate your help.

Table A - Identity, name and address and/or residency evidence
First British Passport If you are applying for a First British Passport you must provide a minimum of 3 documents from the list below as evidence of name and address and/or residency including: at least one document with photo identity, and two documents which show both your name and address and/or proof of residency.
• Non-British uncancelled passport
• National identity card or equivalent (or colour photocopy)
• Driving licence
• Any government or local government produced document which includes a photograph as part of the document
• Visa or residence permit (or colour photocopy)
• Tax record eg a letter from a tax authority
• Educational record eg school report
• Employment record eg official letter from your employer
• Letter sent to you from a central, regional or local government department
• Medical/health card
• Voter’s card
• Immigration documents.

It will take 6 to 12 months. How long will she be away? Might be easier if she applies when she comes back to the UK?

She will be away for 6 months. I would prefer her to apply after returning to UK BUT will she be allowed to enter UK without a British passport after being granted citizenship? I guess ILR is no longer valid!

If she has her ILR BRP (though not valid) and her naturalisation certificate with her, they can't refuse her entry on arrival as a British citizen.

She has both of the documents with her. If she can't be refused entry into UK I will consider this option.I don't think British embassy can provide travel documents to new citizens who never had applied for a British passport.

No, travel documents, emergency or otherwise, cannot be issued to a person who has never held a British passport.
