Can I Apply For Irish Citizenship?

Post by KodiakSA » Tue Nov 24, 2015 9:37 pm

Well, not me, my wife.
She was born in 1973 in Canada. Her father was born in Northern Ireland in 1935 and immigrated to Canada in his 20s.
My understanding is that she may be eligible for British Citizenship as he was born in Northern Ireland, but there also seems to be some information that indicates she could be eligible for Irish citizenship?
Any ideas?
Thank-you

Thanks so much for the response.
However, B states that she is an Irish citizen

C, states they they are entitled, but must register on Foreign Births Registery.
Which seems to indicate that she would not have to register...as that line is excluded for B?

right, I think she need not register with FBR. if you have all the documents, Irish embassy in Canada should issue Irish passport. if you have children and want to apply for Irish citizenship for them, then they need to register with FBR.

Apologies for error in my previous post

If her father was married to her mother at the time of her birth, she could claim British Citizenship aswell, by virtue of Section 2(1) of the Nationality Act 1981.
