My wife (dependent) and I got our ILR last Wednesday! very happy about it and thanks to all those who provided answers to my questions in the forum for the past few months!

The info:

1. Category. Tier 2 (general)

Original entry clearance was issued on 6/10/10 and I arrived in the UK on 14/10/10. Applied 27 days before the five year anniversary of the original visa being issued (one of the questions I had was whether the start date was when I arrived or when the visa was issued.) I have never changed jobs while in the UK.

My wife arrived on 12/11/11, a couple of weeks after being issued her initial dependent visa. Since she applied before April 2012 she still qualified under the 2 years living the UK rule for partners.

2. Number of dependents. One. My wife
3. Total cost. £3,800 premium for both
4. PEO branch. Croydon
5. Documents provided.

- Police registration certificates for my wife and I
- Life in the UK pass letter for both of us
- English language test certificates (Trinity) for both (I had my 2 year old Pearson test, which should have been OK, but because I'll need a new test anyway when I apply for citizenship next year I decided to play it safe and take a new test. Trinity test was very easy. Took it on a Saturday and got the results on Thursday the following week)
- Employer letters. One from HR with the SOC code, current rate of pay, confirmation that I'm still needed and all other info required for those applying under a Tier 2 visa. The letter also confirmed that I had never taken unpaid leave. Because I've had to travel a lot for business I also asked my boss to sign a letter confirming all my business trips.
- 12 payslips for me
- Last 12 bank statements
- Statements of other savings/current accounts from the previous year
- HMRC employment letter as well as last five P60s
- Wedding certificate
- Proof of cohabitation including all council tax bills addressed to my wife and I for the past 3 years, five jointly addressed energy bills covering the last 2 years and a bunch of individually addressed letters/docs including bank statements, HMRC letters and NHS letters for my wife and credit card statements for me on approximately the same date. Also last two years' tenancy agreements signed by both of us.
- Copies of absolutely everything listed above although I think they only kept the copies of the life in the life in the UK test certificates, English Tests, Employer letters, HMRC employment letter and P 60s
- Past three passports for me and two passports for my wife plus passport of second nationality for my wife.
- Our two BRPs

6. Absences more than 180 days in any of the qualifying years. None. But did travel quite a lot, including for business. Over 40 trips abroad over last five years with over 200 days away from the UK. Submitted a spreadsheet with the full detail similar to the one that has been suggested in the forum (Destination, Date departed, date arrived, reason, total whole days away, passport used on entry, page in passport with entry stamp).

7. Any Additional Comments. Everything I provided was very neatly organized and labeled (used dividers and flags). Really had no issues whatsoever. Got there at 7:50AM (appointment was at 8:30) and left at 11AM. They forgot for a moment about us right before the biometrics but we told the lady and she got us sorted straight away. Overall everyone at the Croydon office was friendly, polite and helpful. I think it took them 60 minutes to consider.

I guess I was very stressed about it but, now that I think about it, my application was pretty straightforward.

Hopefully this info will be useful to someone else.

Thanks a lot once again to those who gave me advice. Now one year to go before naturalization!

Fees paid : 1900 + 1900 = £3800
No . of leaves in all 5 years : less than 180
Date of Appointment and time : 12th Sep 2015 at 9:30


8:50 - Reached Solihull PSC and was allowed in, Airport style security checks
9.00 - Payment verification and Token assigned (7th case of the day)
9:10 - Case registered, All documents and photocopies taken (Current passports returned)
9:20 – Biometrics done(Current passport taken) and signed declaration
9:45 - Case under biometric verification
9:50 – Was informed that we are free to leave the building (We left to wander the high street and malls to take our mind off)
12:12 – Received phone call for collecting documents
12:20 - Called to desk, approval letters and docs for collection and sign on two pages with Name/Address/DOB verification. BRP to be sent within 7 to 10 working days. (All photocopies retained)

No questions were asked. Overall experience was very good, staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Hi all.

Just stumbled across this board as I was looking for help to apply for ILR (rather than paying a lawyer to help!). There's a massive amount of insight here, all really useful.

Wondering if people could give some advice as I've seen a few conflicting statements that have confused me slightly, and I worry about things at the best of times! I'm applying for ILR on a Tier 2 General visa (having swapped over from a Tier 1 General).

- Absences from the country: do I need to document every time I've left the UK?
- In regards to absences, I've changed jobs once, so won't be able to get a letter from my previous employer. Will that be an issue? Or can I get my current employer to sign a letter saying all absences were within my entitlement? I've never been out of the UK for longer than 21 days at a time.
- I recently got a promotion at work, which is a new SOC category. I earn enough under that new SOC category (barely though, £600 over), but this won't be true for the past nine months when I was on less. Should I submit separate SOC codes and bank statements for the separate jobs? Or just work to my last pay on the newest SOC code?
- I've read people saying they've submitted bank statements for the past five years - is that a necessity?

Sure I'll have a bunch of other questions, but any help (i.e. to calm me down) would be massively appreciated.

Update : Varied FLR FP to ILR


MY FLR FP application fees got refunded today 15th sep by Cheque.
IHS Fees Refunded on 8th Sep
ILR Granted on 5th Sep
Varied FLR fp to Set LR on 13th Aug @ PEO Sheffield

Hi all,

Today I got my ILR at PEO, Croydon. Application details are:

1. Tier 1 G
2. Entered UK after initial 90 days period, so applied extra extension last year which was valid till 2017. Applied for ILR today after completing 4 years 11 months and 5 days.
3. 1 Main applicant and 2 dependents
4. Life in the UK test report for myself and wife
5. Expired IELTS for both myself and wife where mine was used in initial Tier 1 G application back in 2010 while my wife IELTS was given in England in 2011 and had Ofqual stamp at the back of the certificate, so used it even though it was expired but being presented for the first time to Home Office.
6. Last 12 months salary slips, personal bank statements and employer letter
7. One leave of 11 days in 5 years and got employer letter matching Annual Leave against holidays outside UK
8. Cohabitation documents like council tax, virgin media contracts, water and sewerage bills, NHS letters etc.

Arrive at 0750am, had appointment at 0800 but was fifth in queue so by almost 0900am my application was under consideration, took like 90 minutes but it all went fine.

Notes: I did some contracting last year before 12 months period of assessment, so I made sure my company accounts were correct like corporate tax paid, self assessment done all well in time. I had these documents but were not asked as my ILR points were based on last 12 months permanent employment.

Thanks a lot to the people here as it is like a mutual help.

On ILR paper being asked to sign, it is mentioning end date of 31-12-2024. I was being told that don't worry about this date as it is not expiry date. My own guess is that is like renewing your driving licence every 10 years with new photo but in this case, probably with new biometrics. Don't know if there would be any costs for it in future.

i got my ILR today 21/Sep/2015

I was on Tier 1 General all 5 years and i was out of UK for 52 days in all 5 years.
I entered UK after 89 days of initial visa start date

1. Appointment was at 9:45
2. Was allowed to go in at 9:30
3. Case registration done by 10:00
4. Bio metric Done by 10:15
5 Decision given at 11:45

Below is the list of documents i submitted ( Some are not necessary but i didn't want to take any chances)

I just got my ILR approved under tier 1 G (self-employed). No of applicants: 3
Croydon PSC

Our appointment was around 10 am but there was a fire alarm so we all had to leave the building and everything was delayed for about an hour. We picked up our docs at 1 pm. In a way it was good for us - my kid was too upset to get her photo taken. We had to calm her down. Being outside for an hour was helpful.

I will like to share my success story
I enter the UK 25th September 2005 as a student 
Renewed four times consecutively as a student untill January 2012
I was granted PSW till April 2014.
I then applied for FLR fp with my family, and hot refused July 2014 but with right to appeal. My appeal was dismissed by first tier tribunal in November 2014, but I was luck to be granted permission to appeal to the upper tribunal. 
My appeal was subsequently dismissed by the upper tribunal in February 2015, but I did not received the Judges decision letter till July 2015. I was give the right to seek for permission to court of appeal, but it was eventually refused on 14th of September 2015.
I was very luck again to get a premium appoint in Sheffield on 19th of September. 
On my appointment day, after given my biometric the case worker called me and haned me a letter saying that my application is on hold till she is able to get hold of my original documents from UKBA storage. (I did not go for my appointment with any of my documents because the documents are withheld by UKBA, but I was able to go with some photocopies )
On 25th September 2015 I received back my original documents and a letter from UKBA that my application was successful and to expect my biometric card within 7 working days. 
Alihamdulilah, to God all praise and glory.

Hi,

Had an appointment and successful ILR application at Solihull.

Director of Pvt Ltd company. Provided personal bank statements, business bank statements, letter from accountant, dividend vouchers, salary slips.

Also CT document, SA documents and cohabitation document. Did not take any photocopies but the case worker asked for photocopies of all documents. I told her that I don't have photocopies but she was ok with that.

I was asked to leave the premises. Got a call in 1.5 hours to collect docs.

I had last week an appointment and were told that ILR application successful.
Appointment was in afternoon but reached in morning. I was told to come back around 1:00 pm as it was busy in the morning. I reached at 1:00pm, after security checks submit my documents. There was four stages appearing on status display board. After biometric the case entered into stage 3 (case under consideration). Around 2:30pm my number was called and lady told it is successful and gave me a slip to check and sign biometric information and told the same will be send within 10 working days.
It was on 10 years basis and I submitted all necessary documents specified in the guidance/form.

Hurray!!!! I am really grateful to God and those who have contributed/shared their experiences on this forum.

I applied last week (30 Sept) at Croydon PEO Tier 1 ILR.

Got in at 7:30am with a token number100
Was the first to give my biometric
please ensure you submit ONLY required documents.
Don't try to impress the case worker with extras.
Still awaiting my biometric to be delivered hopefully
this week.

f. cohabitation proofs (both names - council tax letters and water bill, individual - polling card, electoral registration letters, bank statements (2 months), NHS letters - Dates on all these letters spread across last two years.

This was a dependents only application. The Main applicant received ILR few months ago separately.

I got my ILR on 24/Oct/2015

Case worker has called me after an hour and informed me that she could not verify the LIUK certificate due to their IT system problem however she was satisfied with my application, so she has given me a latter saying that they will inform me their final decision through post. Me and wife came off the building then suddenly case worker called on my mobile saying that she has confirmed LIUK verification process and i can collect my approval letter.....we got back into the building and collected our approval letter. Now waiting for BRP.

I am more than happy to help anyone who got any issue whilst applying for ILR.

I would like to start with thanking all the forum members for the help I have spent lot of time in last 6 months learning from various discussion in fact my father who helped me to get through this could easily make this his home page he was always here learning and improving our application.

My case was not straight forward as it might seem we had issues with HMRC getting records corrected, not getting documents we require from employers and missing P60’s.

I had 8:30 appt in Sheffield PEO. I entered at 8 am with a water bottle in my hand and I was stopped and told that guard wants to ensure that I only have water and he tasted some of the water. After all this we went to counter to register our case to a lady who looked confused and she said are you an applicant or a lawyer. I answered both, madam. As I am a lawyer who applied for ILR through Tier 1.
They took all our documents. Time was 8:15 am. Now, at 9 I was called to do a biometric which took sometime as they had issues with finger printing machine.

Here is only thing I am not impressed with Sheffield – Guy told me it should not take more than 50 min. After 3.5 hours I was called and given the good news no questions were asked. It would have been helpful to know the time frame so I do not keep on looking at the screen and my watch constantly.

Leaving note:
Growing up in a suburb, a dream like this seems vaguely ludicrous and completely untenable but this moment is directly connected to all those imaginings for past 5 years for me and for anybody who is on the down side of an advantage and relying solely on courage all I can say is- it’s possible.

Teaching points:
1. Don’t try to save few pounds with HMRC as they do check hmrc records.
2. Ensure you provide a degree they do need it – despite form stating that you do not need to attach it (not sure though).
3. Dress smartly.

Hi all,

Just a note to say that my wife got her ILR.

We went for a day appointment at Sheffield PEO.

We were there for about three hours. The service was very good and the staff were polite and friendly.

I would say that don't arrive earlier than 1 hour before your appointment as you will be asked to come back closer to your appointment time. This is due to limited seating.

Now we are waiting for my wife's BRP. Was told that it will be posted. We should get it in 7 days.

By the grace of God I got my ILR approved on Thursday at Croydon on basis of Tier 1 General.
Appointment was 08:30 reached office 8:00 AM get token 8:15 then case registration and biometric done at 8:45. Until 9:50 token waiting for biometric verification, then went to stage case under consideration.
10:40 ready for collection and then heard magic word " Well done ur settlement visa approved".
Document submitted:
1. Appointment letter
2. Payment Sheet
3. Application Form (SET O)
4. Life in the Uk and MBA degree for qualification and English language requirement
5. Payslips with employer letter
6. Bank statements
7 . Absence letter self explained not from employer.

Tier 1 to ILR Success, Director - Solihull PEO

Hello Guys,
With the god's grace I and my wife have been awarded the ILR recently in Solihull PEO. I am a Director of a company and being self-employed for past 5 years. Thanks so much for this forum and moderators and members to enlighten with all the required knowledge to file the ILR by self without any need for specialist solicitors. I will be glad to share my experience with all the members of the group.

I was allowed to enter inside the PEO exactly 10 mins before my appointment. After the airport kind of security checks, Our Token flashed after waiting for 10 to 15 mins.

First Caseworker, Asked for my payment sheet and passports with BRP's which I readily gave in. After, He was asking for photocopies of passport and BRP's which I gave in.

Then he asked for all the supporting documents and photocopies for every document we submit which I have nicely collated and documented. He was very happy and gave all the documents.

Then we took the biometrics and asked to wait inside or to leave for 2 to 3 hours untill the case worker calls. We did go out to shopping area near by to calm the nerves. Hurray !!! exactly after 2 hours, I got a call to collect the documents from PEO :lol: Finally we are so happy to collect the documents and said we will be receiving the new BRP card in post very soon :D

The key to ILR success being a self employed is to make sure you have paid all the taxes correctly and filed in HMRC for the past 5 years without any dues. Being a prompt payer of the taxes and my case was very straight forward as I was just 35 days outside UK and no convictions or penalities.

I guess they are really intrested in SA 302 for past 5 years or self assessment returns are valid for all extensions you have done so far and meeting the earnings you require to qualify for an ILR.

Successful ILR at Solihull PEO/PSC

Hi,

I used this site very extensively to find many details about my ILR application. With the confidence the members gave, I decided to do everything myself without a solicitor or Immigration adviser.

I applied for ILR using SET(O) at Solihull PEO and it was approved. I will give the details so it might help someone.

Brief immigration history

My initial VISA was TIER 2 (Intra company transfer) granted under the rules in place before April 2010. I got my VISA in Feb 2010 and entered UK in the same month. I might be one of last few people applying under T2 ICT as ILR route for ICT was closed on 6/4/2010.

My application was not very straight forward. I had two absences of more than 180 days because I was sent to home country by my company. But I have been with the same employer since the VISA was initially granted. But what I made sure was there is no break in continuous residence. That's the reason I had to apply 10 months after I was eligible. I split the 180 days to fall in consecutive years so in any one year I did not exceed more than 180 days.

Second I could not arrange a letter from my employer detailing my absences. So I was bit worried.

Now what happened on the day.

Reached Solihull PEO at 09:50 AM for a 11 AM appointment. I was politely told to come back after an hour. Came back to PEO at 10:50.

After Security check I was asked to wait.

11: 05 - Called for a giving a token. 2 mins job and wait again.
11:25 - Called for Case registration - 5 mins. Just had to provide the application form and all documents. NO Questions asked. Wait again.
11:55 - Biometrics. - 10 mins. After this I was told I can leave the building and they will call me if anything needed. Average time for a decision would be 2 hours.

I happily left. Didnt get any call until 3 PM. I got a bit worried as it has been almost 3 hours since I left.

Came back to check. The person at door asked if I got a call. I said no. Then he asked me to go somewhere else and wait for the call. But I requested him that I will wait inside. They try to fend people away as the space is very less. Finally he agreed and I went in by 3:05.

In just 5 minutes, I get called to go to a counter and the lady at the counter said my VISA was approved. A big sigh of relief. No questions asked. Not even a minor one.

I was worried about many things like my absences, no letter from employer and I could not manage to get the last month original payslip. I just submitted a copy of e-payslip. But nothing was an issue.

Documents I submitted

SET O application form
Cover Letter - This was necessary as I could not get a letter from my employer detailing the absences.
Payment sheet
2 photos
UK NARIC Letter
Degree Certificate
LIUK pass letter
12 months payslips - 11 months were attested by employer but last month was just a copy of e payslip
12 months bank statements - got a stamped transaction list from bank to show credit of last month salary.
Deputation letters - To show evidence for start and end of deputation in UK. Might not be required for any category except ICT
Home country payslips - evidence to prove that I was with same employer connected to same employment while I was not in UK
Last 5 years P60s
Letter from Employer - just showing that I am a employee with them since so and so date and my annual salary is xxxx. This is to prove that my salary is above the codes of practises as per my SOC code
Copy of COS from employer - proof for SOC Code
Spouse statement and passport copy.

Wanted to share my experience as a reference for the fellow members of the board.
Succesfull application 5 years Tier 1 G to ILR.

Document submitted:

3. Application Form (SET O)
4. Life in the Uk and Trinity Collage B1 ( I had expired IELTS which I previously used with my initial Tier 1 G application but I didn't want to risk it so got 10 mins speaking exam from TC)
5. Payslips 11 months
6. Bank statements 11 months
7 . About absence letters .. I gave letters from employers which states that I was working for them period of time and never had unpaid leave. I was a bit nervous about the time at the beginning of my Tier 1 G. First year, I was granted T1 on 4th of Jan 2011 , came here 10th of Jan, go back on 14th Jan and came 3rd of March. I put a reason "Preparation to move to London" for that specific gap.

I applied for ilr two weeks ago.
I came into uk sept 2005, had student+ post study +3c(since 2013)

Withdrew my appeal 3 weeks ago.

I only waited for abt 1 hr at the PEO, after which the caseworker adviced she will need to request for my passport to confirm there is no break in my residence and to expect a decision last week.
I called this Monday ( got the number from this site)to say it's been almost two weeks and yet no decision as promised.
It came today! It has indeed been two weeks of sleepless nights.

Thank you to everybody that has shared experiences on this site. I've been on here so very many times and has been encouraged.

PEO Solihull - Succesful ILR Application

Brief History:
I entered UK on Tier 1 Visa, I went back to India after couple of weeks and came back after 4 months.
I was out of the country for approx 80 days in the last 5 years and in that 30+ days was on Business/Office trip.
I am with the same employer for the last 4 years, approx. 2 years on contract and now on permanent role.
PEO: Solihull
Date Applied: 11-Dec-15
BRP Received: 15-Dec-15
The appointment was at 8:00, I reached there around 7:50 and was allowed to enter the same time, I was called around 8:20 by the caseworker who is very friendly and was asked to leave around 8:45 after biometrics. I got call around 10 to collect my docs. The total processing time took around 1:45 minutes

Documents submitted:
• Application Form.
• Photos, Passports, BRP .
• Personal Bank Statements .
• Payslips.
• Letter from the employer confirming salary payment, payment date and employment status.
• Letter from the employer confirming the absences outside the UK.
• Life in UK Pass certificates.
• PBS printout for English language (I have used TIER-2).
