tier 2 visa being applied just before curtailment

Hi experts,

A strange one, but can someone please clarify.

What happens when we apply for tier 2 application just before the curtailment end date, and its gets rejected,

for example let's say if someone has curtailment end date on 11th Dec and applies for tier2 on 4th Dec 2015 through postal which usually takes about 1-2 months I guess, and for some weird reason it visa gets rejected.

does he get a new curtailment letter or will he get the passport/documents back and asked to leave immediately?
