NCS appointment 1 year after ILR

Post by nafe12 » Fri Dec 11, 2015 10:11 am

Just wondering - is the NCS appointment to the day.
E.g. if I got ILR on 04 Jan 2015 can I go for NCS 04 Jan 2016? Do they consider that a year.

The booking people said they do not know :(

This should be fine. Since 04th of January 2016 will be your first anniversary of ILR this means you can book your NCS appointment on that day. I myself booked NCS appointment on the 11th January 2016, having BRP ILR date of 11th January 2015. Make sure you were physically present in the UK on 11/12 January 2011.

Thanks - yes it's confusing whether it needed to be the 5th :)
I suppose it's the same as for the application by post.

From the AN Guide:

"The date of application will be the date your form is received by the Home Office, Nationality Checking Service or the local British government representative as shown above. It is not the date on which you send it."

So if you're thinking of applying by post then you can apply a day before so it reached HO on 4th Jan.

Date of application is the date that you submit at NCS and needs to be a full 12 months from date of ILR. For the sake of 1 day, book an appointment on the 5th.

Date of application is either:
date of NCS appointment
or
date of receipt by HO (if applying directly by post).

I understand that the date of NCS appointment is the date of receipt the application by HO. However, When I booked my appointment in October it was not the case. Can I reschedule my appointment on the 12th of January? or leave 11th January 2016 as my ILR date on BRP is also 11th Jan 2015.

Thanks Fieldrive. I have already asked my NCS to change my appointment from 11th Jan 2016 to 12th Jan 2016 but yet to receive any response.

Good luck with your pending nationality application.

If you apply through NCS can you pay by debit card on a machine at the office? Or do you still have to fill in a payment form?

It is a very easy perhaps mathematics question. If you received ILR on 11/01/2015 then you will complete the required 12 months on 10/01/2016. And on 11/01/2016 it will be 12 months + 1 day which is absolutely fine.

Exactly that's what I meant but as moderator suggested its good to have an appointment a day after to be on safe side.

Simple formula is that whatever date you got ILR is actually included in those 12 months calculation. For example if you got ILR on 11/01/2015 then while counting 12 months 11 January will be included and then eventually you will reach next year 10th January finally when 12 months complete. So any day after 10th January 2016 as per self convenience is fine, only avoid 10th January 2016.

While I agree with @seagul, a day or two is not a big deal in the scheme of things. I also moved my app by 2 days to be 'on the safe side'
