Proving my british citizenship

Post by zac20155556 » Mon Jan 04, 2016 7:33 pm

Hello people I would greatly appreiciate if anybody could help me with this situation which has been extremely long winded and frustrating......

My mother was born on holiday in Switzerland , her parents where born in nigeria her parents where granted stay here and both have british passports as they have been here for a very long time , but my mother has had a problem getting hers because she has lost all her identity documents, she was granted indefinite leave to remain but cannot find any of the documents she once had , she now cannot work , travel and has many restrictions because of this she has tried going to a lawyer to contact the swiss embassy to get an original copy of her birth certificate but to no avail They are not being helpful and are not doing there very best which is understandable because no information at all has been kept in regards to the birth certificate we have a copy but this will jot suffice and even with the reference of the certificate they still persist that they cannot help , she was working and everything was fine when she had her documents the sense of urgency to travel was not there becauase she had been bringing up my two little brothers , but now this is a serious problem because of all the rules and regulations that are coming up she is becoming scared of that deportation could be on the works , whats more because of this I had to because of this Issue myself who was born here had to pay 1000 for british citizenship when if my mother had her documents I would already be classsed as british which will apply for both my borthers also , this amount is very costly so im sure u can imagine why I am appealing for any help there is , if anybody has any information that may help please feel free to conatact me, thank you in advance

her date of birth is 03.10.67 if that helps

It's not clear what nationality your mother may have a right to (Swiss, British, Nigerian or ??).
Do your grandparents not have any supporting documents &/or relevant information?

If you think it is British you could try this route but zero documents makes it a long longshot:

Continue in this topic! Add timelines with dates together with more details of events and circumstances relating to your mother and her parents, may be helpful in getting more responses.

Can I suggest that you space it out a bit, and provide a clear timeline? Obviously you know a lot more than you've typed, and it's not entirely clear to the rest of us what happened. It's very difficult to do this sort of thing yourself, this isn't a criticism.

Where were your grandparents born? Your mother was born in Switzerland, did she ever have a Swiss passport?

When did various people come to the UK? Your grandparents, mother etc?

What about your father? And your brothers' father, if different?
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.
