It may take upto 4 months. Key is to keep chasing them every week after 3 months.

Thanks Gaurav,

I did call them and they said they have sent a referral again. The date they have quoted me is 18th of November ... Should I call them on that day or call them on Monday.

I'll advise call them on 18th coz that's the latest date on which aany activity will happen. If things move before that date then you'll get something in post if not then call in 18th. Also be prepare if in case they tell you that the date has been pushed back and it will take further 2 weeks.

Are amended figures reflecting on your online self assessment account?

The amended figure does not reflect in online SA account nor does hmrc update the SA302 with new figures. They simply send you a separate sheet of calculation which confirms that your return has been amended.

Will it update HMRC internal system. I mean if I call HMRC and enquire for that particular year that will reflect the amended figures ?

{Moderator edit: personal contact detisl removed]

Today I rang up HMRC and they have told me they have not received any amendments for Tax returns for
2010-11 from me. One person said it will show on the system as soon as we receive it and then processed after dealing with it.

But another lady told me until it is not dealt with it wont be scanned to system... Dont know which one is right ?? sending again the same copy to be on the safer side just in case it is being misplaced or the post is gone missing have to wait another 9 weeks for a answer.

You don't have to request any official document. Once your amendment is completed hmrc will send you an official letter wit new calculations. You can submit the same document to ukba.

It will be reflected on the system only when someone puts it on the system.
HMRC is under no legal obligation to do so as soon as it is received.

So, always send such documents by recorded delivery and then wait patiently for 3-4 months.

By law, HMRC has 9 months to update tax amendments. Any quicker than that ... consider yourself lucky!
If you keep pestering them, you may annoy them enough to make sure your case takes exactly 9 months and no less!!
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

Great mate I assume you got your updated SA second week of Jan 2016 after applying for them in Second week of Sep 2015 so total of 4 months it took for the whole process to complete. Could you please tell us did you have to call HMRC every day or week to tell them to expedite the process or was it done in chronological order without any effects of your calls.

Kind regards,

Hi , I have submitted my returns first time(which was done by my accountant).. they were missing at HMRC . So in September again send them a copy with covering letter, stating the error , along with attached amended accounts. This time it was registered post and after 1 week called them and also confirmed they have received the post. Finally , after 1-2 inquires they clearly told me it would not be opened now, and I should wait till FEB 2016 for answer. I have rang them up on Jan 1st week and then the guy told me it was picked on 31st December by a officer and he will get back to you once he finishes looking into it. I got a call 2 days back and a lady spoke to me that they will be processed , but I have to pay the tax due along with fines added. This wont be updated in SA302 , but a new calculation sheet will be sent for reference which can be used .I am stilling waiting for the post to come, and once it comes I will pay the money due online and then keep the document for my ILR purposes.
