Date of approval for BRP

Hello forum,

In the thread for in-country Tier 2 extension timeline (http://www.immigrationboards.com/uk-tie ... -1400.html) in each post there are two lines:
N. Date of biometric enrolment
N+1. Date of approval
I have applied and I'm waiting to hear back from UKVI. Could somebody from applicants please tell how do they know the "Date of approval"? Is it a separate letter which comes from UKVI by post?

It is a separate letter or sometimes the BRP card arrives first.

Date of biometric enrollment has no relation to date of approval. All migrants submit biometrics before case is processed/assessed and approved/refused.
