Photo specification - Surrendering India Passport

Is Indian Embassy very strict on photo specification while surrendering Indian Passport. Is this has to be as specified in the form 50mm x 50mm. Has anyone submitted photograph with different specification. Any experience, please share as I have got an appointment on Monday with vfs.

did they accepted your photos which were other than 51mm X 51mm?
