Selecting a Passport interview date and time

Hi,

Are we given a set of dates and times available to choose for the interview.
Any one had weekend(sunday) interviews?
Since myself and my wife both need to attend the interview is it possible to get a different time slot(eg: 30 mins gap if available) as we need to take our son with us and he can stay with one parent till the other finishes the interview.

In case of emergency can we cancel the appointment and reschedule it for another day? Is this allowed?
