settlement visa issue

I have a settlement visa with my partner. I have yet to activate it but will do so shortly. However, an issue has come up, and a new opportunity may come up. If I relocate with my partner from the US to the UK (as I am entitled to do by the visa) and then decide that the opportunity back in the US is too good to refuse and want to move back there to give it a go does that invalidate my settlement visa? My partner the uk citizen will be with me, we are not seperating or anything.
