Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) question

Post by wandali » Sat Feb 06, 2016 10:08 pm

Hello everyone

My husband is applying for FLR(M) -2 year route. I have indefinite leave to remain (ILR) and we are a bit stuck on the question on the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) form that ask

Are you applying to join or remain with a person already in the UK?

His he supposed to put my name down as his sponsor or what as it's asking for my visa expiry date and IHS reference number and visa route which ILR is not there. Should we answer this question or not as I am no a UK or EEA citizen

Please help
Thanks in advance

No, it's typically confusing. Your husband needs to register for the NHS surcharge as an someone applying alone. If he doesn't do this it will incorrectly calculate a much higher surcharge. The fee should be £500.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Thanks for the quick reply,
we have decided to include just his name, thus giving us £500 but if he includes my name it comes as £1,800.
The form just doesn't make sense
Thanks for the help

If it's the 2-year route, then it should be £400. Why isn't he applying for SET(M)? Are you sure it's the 2-year route?

Unless perhaps it is an extension under old 284 for a person who does not meet the requirements for 287 for one reason or the other.

Ah, just checked an earlier post. Switching from student visa. It's actually the 5-year route. FLR(M) should be granted for 2.5 years. £500 Immigration Health surcharge is correct.

We thought he needs to apply for FLR(M) as we just got married and he's switching from student visa. Or what form is he supposed to apply for?

Cheers

I m filling IHT section and it seems quite confusing- I know I have to pay £600 health surcharge but do I need to add details where it asks for

Are you applying to join or remain with a person already in the UK?
+ Add this person's details

it then asks for IHT refrence and visa expiry date- I have none as I am on ILR- can anyone help please?

If this is for your spouse, it is 'apply alone'. Do not put your details.

It doesnt give apply alone option..I think there is a confusion here..coz when you look at how much you need to pay section you can select applying alone..but then when you are re directed from visa4u page it take you to this page where you are asked :

if you are joining someone in UK- add their details- now I wonder if adding details there make any difference to surcharge? it's so annoying and confusing- once you add details you cannot even remove them

Start the IHS process again with new log in details

But the IHT section comes after biometric appointment section- I will probably have to start from scratch? and re fill all the application?

When you are logged in go back to home page and delete the whole application and start new one again.
