Marriage Registration - Spouse Visa India

I have a simple query. If we get married in a temple in India can we use the photos and certificate from the temple as a proof of marriage. If not, then whats the best way to get the marriage registered?

We are having a reception after 20 days (a fairly big function), but want to apply for the Spouse Visa before that due to long waiting times.
