NHS Surcharge and change of employment on Tier 2 General

Post by arts99 » Fri Aug 07, 2015 12:57 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew whats the process going to be for someone who paid for NHS surcharge and got his Tier 2 General visa approved but then after a month or so had to change his employement with another employer, will he be expected to pay again and use another NHS surcharge payment reference number or he could reuse the previous one issued?

For example lets say the migrant got a CoS from Jul 2015 to Jul 2018 so he pays the £600, but in Sept he changes the job and wants to join to another Tier 2 General employer who issues him a new CoS effective from Sep 2015 to Sept 2018.

I have called UKVI on 03001232241 yesterday ,
and they said the NHS Surcharge is not refunded,as iam changing employment and its a new application.
I need to pay the Surcharge again.
Iam confused, how NHS Surcharge is tied to the Visa.

Experts any advice ,or any numbers to contact UKVI for more explanation will be much appreciated.

thanks,
Ram.

The policy guidance too is not clear on this subject (excerpt below):

When you can’t get a refund
You won’t get a refund for the healthcare surcharge if:

your visa application is granted but you don’t travel to the UK
you leave before your permission to be in the UK ends
the Home Office withdraws your permission to be in the UK
you don’t use any health services during your stay

If you paid the healthcare surcharge twice
If you paid the healthcare surcharge from inside the UK, request a refund using the payment service you used to make your first payment.

If you’re going to a premium service centre, tell UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) when you’re at your appointment.

If you paid the healthcare surcharge from outside the UK, you’ll get a refund for your first payment when your visa application is reviewed.

Probably, best is to pay again and once you get your visa put a refund request for the first payment (?)
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

Hi Manci,
I have called two times and also posted in Whatdotheyknow.
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/c/mh88tya5wdlq0ac0x8g
The reply i got is the same,as part of the change of employment ,as we are making a new application i have to pay the full IHS fee again.
No refund is provided for the previous application.

Iam trying to get a written confirmation from home office, but the email address UKBApublicenquiries@ukba.gsi.gov.uk is bouncing
"Please note that this UKBA e-mail address has been rebranded with a new Homeoffice address. This address will remain in use for a period of 6 months after which it will be removed from the Global Address List.
Please note that as a result of rebranding the UKBA e-mail address on the GAL, this address will no longer be in use.
Your e-mail will be forwarded to the users new Homeoffice address for a period of 6 months from 21st March."

Is there any other relevant email address ,where i can inquire.

thanks,
Ram.

I believe that you have to pay the full IHS due for each new application but you can claim a refund if you paid twice. See the last section here on how to claim the refund:
https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigrati ... on/refunds

Please let us know how you got on with the refund.
