Student finance for Spouse

Hi everyone,

Would like to thank everyone in advance for taking their time for making this forum as great as it is!

My wife would like to apply for student finance for a course starting 2016/17. Place already secured through Ucas.

My wife: non-eea on a spouse visa of settled person in the UK. Has been in the UK for 3 years.
Myself: non-eea settled in UK ('permanent residence' | no restrictions in the UK) currently waiting for the HO to decide on my BC application.

We can't find an option that applies to my wife as I'm not yet British.

Can she get funding as it stands without me being an UK citizen?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Your wife won't be entitle to student finance until she has 'settled status'...i.e ILR. This link will help:

Yes, we spent 30k on the current Mrs Wanderer's student fees, over a three year period, no wonder I had to sell one of Bentleys and let one of the Maids go....

Yes, she needs to be settled, nothing to do with your status as British or EEA - I'm British I went through this, we had no option but to pay....

Oh wow. That's a backwards system. Family of a BC not being able to apply for finance.

I took a student loan (both fee + maintenance) and I had a 5 year residence card (EEA family) at the time.

Err, no it's not actually.

Think about it.

Effectively, it is a loan, that will be paid back with interest.

If it's loan you want, get one, It's what we had to do and prevailing rates....

It's not really about the finance is it - it's about the level of fees to be paid.
