Evidence of UK business for self-employed?

Post by JohnOhn » Sun Mar 06, 2016 4:40 pm

I had a really basic question:

In section 103 of the T1E Guidance (11/2015) it says you must show that your business is based in the UK. For company directors, that's easy: just give a copy of your Companies House printout.

But for point 1 in the "Type of Business" chart on page 29 of the latest guidance, for self-employed applicants it says you must that to prove your business has a premises in the United Kingdom you must provide "Your registration with HMRC to show that the business is based in the UK."

What exactly is this "registration with HMRC" they are talking about? Do they mean the original welcome letter we received from HMRC when we registered for Self-Assessment (the letter that gave you your UTR number)?

Thanks,

J

Yes, a welcome letter or any subsequent tax letter / correspondence from HMRC having your business premises address can be used as a proof.
