A child born to parents who are both British and South African, can hold both nationalities without any issues. The permission to attain another nationality as a South African (and the relevant laws) is ONLY relevant to adults and not to children.ohara wrote:You should check out the SA nationality laws especially regarding multiple citizenship though. I saw in another thread that it is illegal for a South African citizen to exit the country with a foreign passport. You may want to look into that.

I don't know who has been giving her the FUD that the child will not be able to get any 'benefits' by lieu of not physically being born in the UK. Not that we have thankfully ever needed to make use or or hope to in the future (except NHS occasionally) ..
The only drawback is that there is a 3 month exclusive of benefits/NHS use as a British citizen that has been living abroad and this is relevant to whether born in the UK or not.
Regarding SA/UK citizenship, we do enter/leave SA on our SA passport and the UK (and nearly everywhere else) on the UK passport. The child will have two passports regardless of where it is born (just to be safe). Most sensible thing, child can have both without any problems. My daughter has both and has not had any issues traveling in and out of Joburg in the same way you do.
I think that bridge will have to be crossed anyway - wouldn't the child move to South Africa if born in the UK?CR001 wrote:uk_mkh wrote:So what I had found was basically correct. ohara wrote:If the child is born in SA it will automatically be a British citizen by descent and will have exactly the same rights as a British child born in the UK.
Thank you @CR001ohara wrote:Did you read any of the other posts in this thread???
