Schengen visa application for Italy

Post by rm » Tue Dec 18, 2007 5:02 pm

Ciao tutti

OK, the situation is this: I am a EU national living and working in Italy. My gf is applying for tourist visa in order to visit me for 3 months. On the host declaration form that I need to fill in, it says that:

"I have already made available on behalf of the above-mentioned person, as financial guarantee and in the form of bank security, the sum of …………………. euros in the following bank..." (in Italian: a fidejussione bancaria). As I understand, this is some sort of a safe deposit (?)

Today I went to the bank in order to arrange this, but I was told that they cannot prepare it for me because it would be a deposit for 14 months and my contract here in Italy will be finished in 9 months only. :x

My questions:
(1) Does anyone have experience with a arranging a fidejussione bancaria?
(2) Is it correct that it cannot be arranged for me in this case?
(3) Is this fidejussione bancaria also necessary if my girlfriend indicates that she will be paying her own expenses and if she can prove that she has enough money for that?

Thanks a lot for any help!
RM

This means in so many words that your bank guarantees that your girlfriend can keep herself in case she becomes insolvent.

When I had one done for my fiancée it was valid for 14 months also.

The Fidejussione is in alternative: it is not necessary for you to give it, if she has enough funds of her own. Why don't you copy the first page of this letter and just sign that? What they want there is proof of accommodation.

Why can't your fiancée just book a hotel? Sometimes they are happier with this.

They're specialised in this sort of thing and they even speak English.
