Income Declaration for ILR application

Post by avi59 » Mon Mar 21, 2016 10:12 am

Hi Friends,

In my Tier1 extension application I declared some of my overseas income (I've been running this business before coming to UK) to HO but didn't submit self assessment to HMRC because it was received in foreign country account and all the tax was also paid in that country.
Do I need to complete self assessment for that foreign income as well for all these years?
If I file self assessment to HMRC now I don't want to pay double tax on it.

would appreciate you help on this matter.

This is an immigration forum and we have no tax experts active on the forum. Better to search for a forum specialising in tax as no advice posted here can be confirmed for validity. You're welcome to come back with any immigration queries.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Yes you have to declare all income, subject to any double taxation agreements in place you'll have to pay the difference in tax, if any, i.e. if tax was 10,000 in overseas country and would have been 13,000 if taxed wholly in UK, you'd pay 10,000 overseas and 3,000 to HMRC.

But agree with Casa, take the advice of an international tax expert,
