Eligibility for British citizenship

Post by kittens » Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:30 am

Hi,

I was hoping someone could clarify for me when I am eligible for British citizenship.

I first arrived in the UK from Australia on a working holiday visa in August 2004. In March 2006 I was granted FLR as the unmarried partner of a British citizen - this expires in March 2008. We got married overseas in November 2007 and now I am intending to apply for indefinite leave to remain as a spouse of a British citizen in March 2008.

At what point can I apply for naturalisation? I'm not sure whether I need to have ILR before I can apply, or whether my working holiday visa counts towards the residency requirements?

thanks for your help!

Once you have ILR you can apply for naturalisation. Time on the WHV counts towards the 3 year residence.
