Hi. Submitted myself ,wife & daughter's British passports for OCI collection at VFS Newcastle. Ask for the acknowledgement of same. But the lady on the desk said we don't acknowledge the OCI collection . I asked further that I am submitting my British passport should get something as proof . Lady questioned me , dont u trust indian embassy? Further told me to email the Indian embassy if thay say then I will acknowledge. Rude. .. I think she was very busy and only staff member at centre frustrated dealing with so many requests. Can anyone put any light on my case? Bit worried now just in case they lost our passports as we have no acknowledgement. Kindly help.

Yes, this is pretty strange - happened to me too. They didn't give me any receipt or any tracking ref when they took my passports. So I called them up later with my GBRL ref and they confirmed they have my passport. They sent it back with the OCI booklet in around 3 days anyway.

Timeline for OCI applied for my son

Place applied: VFS Centre Edinburgh, UK on 14/03/15 but have to send an amended OCI application due to some problems with photo and thumb impression required for minor, sent the updated application on 01/04/15.

There is no U sticker now on the UK passport, instead a separate OCI certificate of registration ( which is like a passport itself) is issued.

Could one of you please guide me as they haven't asked me to upload Indian Surrender Certificate / Naturalisation Certificate is that correct???

Appointment Letter
Application Form
2 photographs
British Passport
Indian Surrender Certificate
Naturalization Certificate
Marriage Certificate ( Not Sure )

Please guide me if I am wrong in this.

I don't think that's correct. You have to upload
- Indian Origin Proof - Scan of Surrender Certificate will suffice.
- Naturalisation Proof - Scan of your Naturalisation Certificate and Scan of photo page of passport.

For minors, you also have to include other documentation, such as their birth certificate (especially if born out of India), parents marriage certificate, and also their passport surrender certificate if they ever had an Indian passport.

The "Select a document type to upload" dropdown will have some options like current passport, indian origin proof, indian visa etc. I uploaded my passport surrender certificate under "Indian Origin Proof", and current passport + naturalisation certificate in one PDF under "Current Passport".

For my child I uploaded our marriage certificate scan under "Marriage Certificate", and birth certificate and passport surrender certificate as one PDF under "Indian Origin Proof".

This is the receipt VFS gives you when you apply for the OCI the first time. It refers to the money you paid for the service. Normally they staple it to something.

However normally (inspite of what the docs required says) they don't really ask for any docs when taking the passport. If you can show a printout showing your application is ready for collection, then you should be all right.
