Past earnings - Australia - refusal

Post by vokie1971 » Thu Jan 06, 2005 2:07 pm

Hi there

I recently received a refusal for the HSMP. There were three areas of disagreement with my self assessment. The most contentious area was in relation to past earnings.

They only took the amount of my earnings from my income payment summary returns (tax returns) rather than the gross amount that I have received from my employer.

In Australia we have salary packaging and I had leased a car using this practice which reduced my taxable income. The benefit of the car is also taxed under the Fringe Benefits Tax system so the income and the benefit are subject to tax.

I have sent back an eight page review letter with additional documents only to verify my income and to explain to the case worker the way that salary packaging works. I have shown the trail of the income receipts, included pay slips and so on.

Has anyone else had these sort of problems?

Thanks

Vokie

Hi Vokie,

I am on full margin regarding m salary points. I receive beside basic
1. In cash
a. Transportation allowance
b. Travel allowance

2. In kind like ur case
a. I am entitled to 30% of my basic as Housing Allowance, however i opted for company provided furnished accomodation for the same amount

I am too afarid now whether they consider these transportation, travel allowance and housing facility.

Please let me know about what type of payment they include in calculating salary.

Well you are unfortunate enough to find a case worker like that.As I remember my case details they took my gross Salary to award points as my salary also included different allowances alongwith basic salary. So Ali_Sch atleast you shouldn t get worried if they treat your case the way they treated my case. Best of Luck
