Career Break - NHS to Postdoc

Post by mansourr61 » Mon Jun 20, 2016 1:42 pm

Hi Everybody

I work for NHS for 2 years now on a Tier 2 General Visa. I have a one-year offer from a university to do a post-doc their for which they will sponsor me for a Tier 2 visa for one year.

I am thinking of getting a one year break from my current position with NHS, do the one-year post-doc and return to my current role after a year.

Does anybody know if this will work according to my visa requirements? I mean, assuming that my managers in NHS agree with my one-year break, as a Tier 2 worker, am I allowed to take this break and work for another employer for one year (on a new one-year Tier 2 visa, and then return to my current role afterwards?

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Regards,

Mo

assuming that post doc will be considered as an employment and you will be issued a cos for tier 2, u will need to apply for tier 2 for new employer. Once u are done with them, the original employer, providing they are happy to re-employ u, will need to issue u a new cos after doing rlmt.

Thanks for the reply.

So you mean it is like resigning from the first job to get the other job and then after one year re-applying for the old job? If so, the "career break" is not useful because it it was I would not need rlmt...

won't the issue of pre-selection come into play for RLMT once the return to NHS is made ? Others can advise but I think it can get tricky. After your postdoc, you will be applying again to the NHS job, and the NHS will have to advertise the post, and then prove that you were the best candidate among all the applicants, if you are again made an offer..IMHO
