I am getting the following status online:Your application is processed and sent to the respective office of the High Commission/Consulate General of India in the UK for further assessment. Please check our website http://www.in.vfsglobal.co.uk for further information on 'Processing Times'.
Received Surrender certificate: Waiting
Not sure what to make of the status message on VFS site. Has anyone seen this status message before? How long did it take to get the surrender certificate. I had budgeted 2 weeks and have an OCI appointment tomorrow:(
How many days it was in "Processed" status before changing to "With DX for delivery" ?ashwini_k wrote:I don't know what the issue was but the status changed to "with dx for delivery" late on the 19th.

Just noticed that my Surrender certificate has got Indian High Commission seal but no sign above Passport Officer text.
Any one faced with the same situation and applied OCI successfully or do I need to get sign in the certificate?
Cheers,
Mani

Here is the link for tracking surrender Indian passport:Krish19 wrote:Can some tell how tracking works, i applied on 24th and when i put my details there it tells me record does not exist.
The surrender Certificate I received had an issue with my father's name printed incorrectly. So went back to VFS Goswell Road on 12/07/2016 to have it corrected. I didn't know that I need to take another pre-paid envelope for the return and was charged £15 for their delivery. There was no charge for the correction and hence didn't have any receipt or proof of submission. The only proof was the tracking number they gave for DX delivery.tushar_mars wrote:Application Date : 01/07/2016

I am not sure where you got this figure of 145 for 3 years from. The VFS page on Passport Surrender clearly says that the fine is £145 for each use of the passport (or service obtained on the passport) after the grace period. The grace period is 90 days from the date of getting the naturalisation certificate but these days in the UK that is impractical because you have to hand in your BRP within 5 days of receiving your naturalisation certificate. So you can leave the UK on an Indian passport but cannot enter using that same passport as you won't have a BRP. Leaving using one passport and entering using another is NOT recommended.king1325 wrote:Hi,
Can someone please tell me about retention of indian passport after acquiring British Citizenship. When I googled it, it clearly says that for 3 years the fees is £145, but when I called VFSglobal helpline for this topic, the person on line said she dont know anything about this.
So my query is if I decided to retain the indian passport for 3 years by legally paying that £145 fees, can I still apply for OCI on that basis? or its a compulsion to surrender the indian passport in order to get OCI?
Don't do it. You will put future OCI applications at risk (besides running up huge fines - £1450 for 10 trips made after grace period for example) Surrendering the passport is very quick (2-3 days after applying usually). Getting an OCI if you have a surrender certificate takes about 2 months. Once you have your surrender certificate you can apply for an e-Visa as well. Also if in case I am allowed to retain it for 3 years by paying the desired fees, can I use it for travel in those 3 years? and what is grace period?
