Biometric confirmation receipt for spouse visa

I have come across references to this document:

I believed it was part of the supporting documents gven at the appointment stage of the spouse visa.

However, the appointment supplier I am using does not mention this receipt in the list of documents they need to see. Is this receipt only given AFTER the appointment? And so it is not part of the supporting documents that they are given by the applicant when they go into the office of the appointment supplier.

Please clarify.
