CoS start date issue

My employer has sent me my 3 years CoS for restricted tier 2 visa. The work Start date on the COS is 15 August 2016. The other dates are:

Current certificate status date: 27 June 2016
Date assigned: 27 June 2016
Expiry date (use by): 28 September 2016


I had told my employer that I would apply for visa on 7th August and would be joining the job from 7th September 2016. Will there be any issue that the employer has mentioned the start date as 15th August? What start date for job shall I mention in the Online Visa application form?

your sponsor can not amend the cos, now that it has been issued.
he could however add a note saying that the start date has been changed due to mutual consent.

Many thanks for the reply. Is it necessary to add this note? I mean is it likely to cause problems with visa application if the start date note is not added to the system?

i personally think it will not be a problem, however, if it was me, i'd have it added, just so i dont leave anything for them to make mistake on.

Thanks. My employer has told me that they have added it in the HO system but they have not sent me a new copy of ammended COS. Is it because they have just entered it in the system but no new COS will be issued for this and I can use the old one? or do they need to send me a new copy?

COS is a number and not a doc..
if they have earlier sent u anything.. it is a mere print out and does not need to be submitted with your application.
they are correct, that the notes that they have added, cant be seen on the cos printout.

The work start date on my Tier 2 general COS is 15th august 2016 and the work end date is 14 august 2019, If I apply now and I am granted a visa in September will I be given a visa from September 2016 to September 2019 (full 3 years) ? Or I will be given visa till 14th august 2019 only?

I am asking this because as tier 2 general is for a maximum of 5 years, so I might have problems later with indefinite leave if I have a short residence by a few weeks

leave is given as per cos end date
tier 2 is given for a max duration of 6 years including extension
you are long way off from ilr.. no one knows if there will be ilr after 5 years, so stop thinking that far
