COS start date

I have BRP valid till 18/09/2016, there was delay in new COS issuance from new sponsor (as I am changing jobs), so they will issue this week.
My new job start date is 05/09/2016, They said they are happy for me to start work on 05/09 as long as I had applied for a Tier 2 visa as my old BRP was still valid until the 18th of September.


should I tell them to put a later start date on the COS?

Now I read on the UKBA website that I should not start a new job until I have received a new BRP.

Any advice is appreciated.
