Documents to exit India (child with British passport)

Post by gre.bm691 » Thu Sep 08, 2016 12:06 pm

Hello
We have finally got our son's british passport (born in India).

I wanted to know what are the documents that I need for exit. So far I am told I need the following:
1. Exit permit (From FRRO)
2. No objection letter from myself

Is there anything else? I have heard I need a no objection from the British embassy too. Is that the case?

Appreciate all the help the forum has given me so far.

Hi,

Sorry I don't have any information on it, but would like to know how long it took for you to get the british passport? I believe you would have applied from India?

Trying to identify timelines here for future reference.

Thanks,
-Senthil

I believe this thread should be moved to the Other Countries forum as it is related to Indian exit formalities for foreign citizens and not to British citizenship itself.

This old thread describes the process vividly. Worth going through it.

Broadly you will need an exit permit from the FRRO. A quick Google search pulls up this link to use to apply for the exit permit, but the thread above suggests that there are further hoops as well.

This website describes the process of exiting India with a surrogate child born there. From the viewpoint of getting the exit permit, I imagine the process is the same.

Thank you for the response. The problem with most of the posts regarding the exit permit is that most of them are quite old.

Anyway, we managed to get the exit permit in a day. It is a REAL struggle. Wife had to wait for 6 hrs at the FRRO office to get it done. If anyone has any questions about the docs required, please ask.

My question now is, do I need anything else?
I read somewhere that I need to get a no objection certificate from British High command. Is that the case??
