Keep dual citizenship

Post by jorge » Mon Oct 03, 2016 10:51 pm

Hi guys,
I went to post office to send my application for
my first British passport after naturalisation
In section 3
It said to put the number of uncancel passport.
The post office guy who checked the application .
told me I need to write a separate paper.
To tell office I want to keep dual citizenship.
If not they will damage my current passport.
I want to know anybody have the same experience
I want to send the application tomorrow and I don't
want to lose my current passport. If I want to go
My origin country I don't want to get visa.
Thanks in advance.

Why do you believe your current passport will be damaged? :?

They would not do anything to your other nationality passport, whether you specify it in your PP application or not. Foreign passports are the property of the foreign government, HO don't have the authority to cancel them.

On a side note, citizenship isn't lost just because a passport is cancelled.

Did he complain and ask for compensation to replace the damaged passport?

What nationality is this? There are some that don't allow dual nationality but I'm not aware of any agreements whereby the UK passport service takes it upon itself to destroy your passport!

he was from Congo. But he told me that he didn't bother to complain or claim damages because his passport was near to expire. That reason it scared me because I need my current passport for different issues. I just want to make sure before i send my application form for british passport that my current passport isn't destroy by HO.

HO don't destroy foreign passports.

Maybe your 'friend' has not told you the truth or is trying to scare you. Post Office person is also wrong or maybe you misunderstood.
