I was granted British Citizenship last nov.2007. However, there's was an error in the printing of my certificate of citizenship. My name at birth (surname) was printed the same as my married surname. So i sent my certificate back last Nov. 20.

I've made two if not three follow on calls but still i haven't received my certificate back nor any call or letter from them what the delay is all about.

From what i understand since becoming a British Citizen, my Indefinite Leave to Remain has been cancelled and I can't forward my application for a British Passport coz one of the requirement is the original copy of my certificate of citizenship.

Please someone help and advise me on what to do. My holiday schedules are totally messed up.

BTWz, i would like to commend the HO for the processing of my application for the BN. It took them less than a month.
Just wondering why its taking this amount of time for them to correct an error on their printing.

Have you tried asking them in writing, first class recorded post?

no i haven't. but yes, i would do just that.

just to make sure it does not go the wrong department and be thrashed, can you suggest who/where my querry be addressed to ???

Where did you send your certificate? Liverpool? Probably have to send the letter to them, and ask if they do not deal with this matter to forward the letter to the relevant person.

Recorded delivery should at least create a paper trail of your enquiry.

Despite what others may say, you will have no problem leaving and returning to the UK with the passport that you have indefinite leave to remain in.

At worst, you may get a remark from the Immigration Officer that you shouldn't be doing it.

I did it myself just after I became a British citizen. I had to travel overseas urgently but there wasn't enough time for me to obtain my British passport. On my return not a word was said to me.

When you naturalised, didn't you get a letter back with your SA passport that your ILR was no longer valid. The home office does make a point to tell you that.
