Strangers Into Citizens - Westminster Debate

Post by kg1983 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 7:30 pm

I received the email from SIC campaign this morning:

Dear Strangers into Citizens Campaign Supporters,

This is to draw your attention to the following debate taking place at the House of Commons next Tuesday:

Towards a progressive immigration policy
6pm Tuesday 29 January 2008, Committee Room 14, House of Commons, London SW1
Speakers: Liam Byrne MP, Immigration Minister; Jon Cruddas MP; Sukhvinder Stubbs, Barrow Cadbury Trust; Neil Jameson, London Citizens; Don Flynn, Migrants Rights Network; Polly Toynbee, The Guardian (Chair)

London Citizens’ Neil Jameson will be speaking at the debate, as is the Immigration Minister Liam Byrne.

It will be an excellent opportunity to make the case for regularisation, and it would be great if you can come along to show your support and to put your questions to Mr Byrne.

To book a place, e-mail Compass on office@compassonline.org.uk

Best wishes,

Joanna

:D I will try and watch it online. I can tell you Byrne's response beforehand:

"Regularisation is effectively an amnesty and no matter how ineffecient the HO is, we still plan to destitute all irregular migrants except for a lucky few who will get ILRs and exactly the same number of them will appear to be duplicates or will be removed. Oh and by the way we dont comment on individual cases. My Rt. Hon. friend makes an interesting point but our policy will not change because we are a bunch of self-righteous arrogants twits.

It was a seminar so they haven't published it like they publish House of Commons debates etc. Compassonline has published a news story on their website though.
