I'm reading it as the OP saying that he lives in NI and his wife was refused a UK spouse visa. 18 months later, the appeal has now been refused too as he is paid in cash (lack of proof).

Now he is asking if he should use the SS instead as he lives in NI but works in RoI, but lives and wants to continue to live in NI. I assume his wife is still her own country, the Philippines?

Or if he should use the irish citiznership route for his wife as they want to stay in NI?

If you meet the financial requirements to sponosr your wife, can't you just get what the UK needs for that proof and apply again when you have what is reguired?
Have a read of what you must provide.

You heard wrong.
Eire is slow with EU applications and paperwork - that's since before Brexit and not about SS in particular.

SS for Brits is still an option whilst UK is in EU.

Ofcourse, due to laws of space and time, it would now be very hard to acquire PR in the normal way afterwards (back in UK), but still SS is an option.

Your questions in bizarre text speak make very little sense.
What are you trying to achieve here?

For a start get up to speed on free movement, concepts, the basics, terminology & etc, here:
http://ec.europa.eu/justice/citizen/doc ... 013_en.pdf
When you have absorbed that, perform a gap analysis and come back with questions.

To avoid confusion & jumbled responses, I have moved your question to its own thread (this one).

Did you renounce your UK citizenship? Can you get it back?

She is the Uk citizen and I am American. She is still in school and does not meet the income requirement for UKBA.

In order for SS to work you need to cut all ties with the North, AIUI. Are you British only, or British and Irish?

Rather than drip feeding random bits of information, why don't you just give a proper account of your circumstances? Nobody is going to be able to help you if you just post bits here and there like "uk visa was denied". Do you have any idea how many visa categories there are in the UK :?:

You've also posted this in the EEA route forum, and there are no EEA visas!

Assuming you are dual Irish/British...

No, giving up citizenship is nothing to do with SS route.
SS is a means by which Brits may be considered as proxy EEA nationals despite being British.

Renouncing citizenship is unlikely to help you because even if you were 'only' an EU citizen UK is leaving EU soon anyway.
Irish citizens can always rely on CTA but that doesn't apply to dependents.
In fact if you were to become only Irish its unclear how you could exercise treaty rights in home country of Eire.

You would be able to move to UK if only Irish; however wife would still need to gain entry to UK.
Any/all transitional arrangements for such nationals once UK has left EU are unclear and yet to be put in place.

HO plays hardball and SS rules changed again only this month.
A move from N.Ireland to Eire is likely to be scrutinised.
 If in Eire only since March suggest give it longer to truly move your centre of life to Eire.

With Brexit looming you probably only get one shot at this.
And be aware there's unlikely to be time for dependent to acquire PR in 'normal way' even after returning to UK (or if going there as Irish family).
