EU FAM - moving to UK

Post by egg » Mon Feb 04, 2008 3:41 pm

Hello everyone,
I got 5 years EU FAM visa last july, and now we are planning to move to UK.
My husband is british, and myself is non EEA. We've been married for more than 4 years outside of UK, so now I can apply for permanent residency in UK.

But, my husband just called immigration office in Liverpool, then told that I don't need any visa to come to UK and work, EU FAM visa will be able to cover it. Also told that I can apply for UK permanent residency in UK just 28days before my EU FAM visa run out.

From lots bad experience from Irish immigration office, I can't really trust this. Sorry I understand this is not suitable topic for this forum, but I thought if anyone has same experience or has an answer?
I used to use this forum when i tried to get EU FAM visa, very helpful.

regards,
egg

Hi Victoria5, thanks for your reply.

Sorry my first post wasn't very clear, My husband & I live in Ireland now.
We married in 2004 in Dublin, I used to have a work permit in ireland before marriage.
In 2005 we got to move to Australia because of my job, then we came back to Ireland in late 2006. Then I applied for EU1 form it's called in Ireland, now I have a visa "EU FAM" for 5 years.

My husband is British, so we are planning to settle down in Uk now.

Regards,
egg

You need to apply for an EEA family permit from the British Embassy in Dublin.

What they told you is very odd. What country are you a citizen of.

You have the choise of entering the UK on the basis of EU law or of UK law. In the case of UK law, you must apply in advance. In the case of EU law, you should apply in advance if you know you will be settling in the UK or wish to work in the UK.

Is your goal just to move to the UK? Or is it also your goal to get British citizenship as soon as possible?

When do you want to move to the UK?

sorry my reply is late again, I just set up notification in different email address.

I found a right info,
I am japanese, my husband is british.
I can apply for EEA FP, then when I enter in UK, I can apply for residency card, or I can apply for permanent residency straight way.

I don't think about citizenship right now, but I'd like to apply for permanent residency quite soon.

Thanks again for your reply, and sorry again for my late reply!!!!
